There will be a Bonus Fishbowl on Tuesday, April 20 with a theme of "Daughters of the Apocalypse." Start thinking about prompts, and I hope to see you all then!

The 100th [community profile] crowdfunding Creative Jam on Good vs. Bad this past weekend was quite a success! :D See what I have written. At least one other writer contributed, and I've got someone else writing a piece for me too.

Poetry in Microfunding:

There are two open epics at present.

"The Hobbomak" launches the Bear Tunnels series. Emma and Jesse discover an unusual chamber underground.

"A Celebration and a Consolation" belongs to Polychrome Heroics. Keira comforts her mother after the breakup.

The weather has been mostly mild and blustery. We got some rain here and there. We're doing lots of yardwork. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a large flock of sparrows, a large flock of mourning doves (including courtship behavior), a large flock of grackles, a few robins, several house finches who are draining the thistle sock, a pair of cardinals, a Bewick's wren, a brown thrasher, a squirrel, and two rabbits.  I also saw a single red-winged blackbird in the yard.  Currently blooming: daffodils, blue grape hyacinths, forsythia, violets, tulips, cherries, gold currants, bluebells, lilacs, yellow bellflower, white trillium.

Tyrannosaur Packs

Tyrannosaurs may have hunted in packs, like wolves.  So the velociraptors may have been more fact than fiction.

Thinking about it, many tyrannosaur species were huge, but they lived alongside even more gigantic herbivores.  So a pack of pack of tyrannosaurs may have been comparable in size to their prey as a pack of wolves attacking a moose.  The prey has to be small enough for the predator(s) to bring down, but big enough to feed all of them.  A pack can reliably bring down bigger prey than a solitary predator.

Also I'm totally up for writing this if anyone wants to ask for it during a relevant prompt call. :D

Poem: "The Nexus of Choice and Persuasion"

Based on an audience poll, this is the free epic from the April 6, 2021 Poetry Fishbowl making its $200 goal. It was spillover from the March 6, 2021 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from [personal profile] fuzzyred. It also fills the "Let's Misbehave" square in my 2-1-21 "Romance Book Titles" card for the Valentine's Bingo fest.

Poem: "The Transmigration of Soulmarks"

This poem came out of the 100th [community profile] crowdfunding Creative Jam in April 2021. It was inspired and sponsored by [personal profile] nsfwords. It also fills the "Soulbond AU" square in my 4-4-21 "Genderplay AU" card for the Genderplay Bingo fest. This poem belongs to the series Eloquent Souls.

Warning: This poem contains intense and controversial topics. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. It includes transgender issues, relationship problems, soulmarks fading as people become less compatible, transition-driven breakup, struggling to learn a new skill, meeting a new soulmate under unusual circumstances, and other challenges. If these are sensitive issues for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before reading onward.

Birdfeeding

Today started out partly cloudy, then drizzled briefly.

I fed the birds.  I've seen house finches and doves today.

I planted grass seed in a bare patch by the prairie garden.  Doug got the ritual meadow, prairie garden paths, along the south edge of the driveway, and yard by the house mowed before it rained.

The spruce cones are fascinating.  It turns out that the yellowish ones are male (producing clouds of golden pollen) and the bright pink ones are female (catching pollen), soft and fleshy now, also quite sticky with resin.  :D  Tree pr0n!

Yellow bellflower and white trillium are blooming.

EDIT 4/18/21 -- I pulled some weeds in the yard by the house.

EDIT 4/18/21 -- I started picking up sticks in the south lot.  I didn't get very far, past the contorta willow but not to the purple-and-white garden.

Bonus Fishbowl on Tuesday, April 20

There will be a Bonus Fishbowl on Tuesday, April 20 featuring the Daughters of the Apocalypse series. This is postapocalyptic hopepunk dominated by young female people of color. Older, male, and white people all got hit harder by the Grunge. Fifteen years after the End, people are trying to rebuild society as best they can, but this is where many scavenged supplies are really starting to run out, so they'll need to make more and more of their own stuff -- if they can. Drastic changes in society have yet to settle into a new, stable configuration and there are many different clusters of civilization out there all trying different things.
