Birdfeeding

Today is sunny and warm.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a large flock of doves, a flock of house finches, goldfinches, and a squirrel at the hopper feeder.  In the yard I saw an indigo bunting.  :D  Like the finches, they prefer small seeds.  Sometimes they hang around here in the summer.  They have very complex songs.

EDIT 5/24/21 -- My partner Doug reports the first fireflies of the season.  \o/

Hard Things

The half-price sale in the Daughters of the Apocalypse went all right. I still have poems to post from that.

Poetry in Microfunding:

There are two open epics at present, and "Rainshadow Road" is also open but I haven't posted it yet.

"The Hobbomak" launches the Bear Tunnels series. Emma and Jesse explore the images on the walls.

"A Celebration and a Consolation" belongs to Polychrome Heroics. Keira comforts her mother after the breakup.

The weather has been warmer, and it rained enough to flood the fields. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a flock of mourning doves (including courtship behavior), a flock of sparrows, a flock of goldfinches, a few robins, several house finches, a pair of cardinals, a rabbit, and a squirrel. Currently blooming: purple allium, white allium, honeysuckle, wood hyacinth, wild strawberries, blackberries, chives, bergamot, iris, peonies.  Mulberries and black raspberries have green fruit.

Poem: "Rainbow Hills"

This poem is spillover from the April 20, 2021 Bonus Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from [personal profile] readera and Anonymous. It also fills the "taboo subjects" square in my 4-4-21 "Aspects" card for the Genderplay Bingo fest. This poem belongs to the Daughters of the Apocalypse series.

Warning: This poem contains intense and controversial topics. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. It includes the apocalypse, the Grunge, mass casualties, adults dying and leaving children and teens to fend for themselves, abandonment of an intersex infant, varying levels of respect for nonbinary identities, normalization of lesbian relationships, reference to pestering lesbians to have procreative sex, gay men viewed as selfish by outsiders, and other challenges. On the whole, though, Rainbow Hills is a successful commune and a good place for QUILTBAG people.
