Poetry Fishbowl Report for Tuesday, February 2, 2010
Our theme this month was "dreams," which proved quite popular.  Yay!  Most of the prompts came early, with a few trickling in later.  I worked from 12:15 PM to 2:15 AM, so about 12 hours allowing for breaks.  I wrote 21 poems.  There were more medium-short $10 poems than everything else combined.  There were plenty of form poems, particularly sonnets, a rondeau and something similar, an indriso, a double-ballad, etc.  The topic seemed to lend itself well to rhyme and meter.  I also wrote an extra poem today.  Many of the poems used two or more prompts this time, so I went through the first round pretty fast and was able to double back and re-use favorite prompts or more than one prompt by a given person.

A total of 15 people sent prompts.  Special welcome to new prompter wcg!  There were 63 comments including mine.  Two poems were microfunded, and both were finished quickly -- good teamwork, folks.

EDIT 2/2/10: Added poem.

The following poems from the February 2010 fishbowl have been posted:
"Cleaning the Dreamcatcher"
"The Dream Dump"
"Dreams of the Night, Deeds of the Day"
"A Loosing Proposition"
"The Polar Bear and the Princess of Beasts"
"The Scapemare"
"Sole Train"
"Soulchild Dreaming"
"Vessel of Dreams"

These poems have also been posted:
"Eviction Noticed" (written 10/2008)
"Home Shriek Home" (written 2/6/10)
"Nightmares for Sale SOLD" (written 10/2008)

Regarding the epic, "Boundaries and Determinations," it's a sequel to "The Transformations of Terror."  It was the last poem I wrote Tuesday night, it took me over two hours, and it's still in the rough ... at just over six pages containing 234 lines (if I counted correctly).  Many of the lines are short, so I don't really feel right asking $.50/line for this one, although I'd like to get something  for it.  I'm toying with the idea of posting this as a "workshop" poem, open to donations, and also open to editing suggestions.  If you're interested, let me know.

Currently sponsored poems have all been posted.  A list of remaining poems is here, requested by xjenavivex, who also graciously reprinted a list with thumbnail descriptions added.  If you find this new feature useful, please chime in.

Another first is that janetmiles, intrigued by my reference to a previous (then-unpublished) fishbowl poem, decided to sponsor two poems from a previous fishbowl, October 2008. In case you're wondering, yes, sometimes it is possible to sponsor poems from previous fishbowls. Other times it's not. You can ask, and I'll check my records.  A poem might have been sold already (and thus might be available for reprint) or might be on some editor's desk (and thus unavailable for the time being) or might be available right now.

Copies of the currently unpublished poems have been sent backchannel to their prompters. The donor perk-post, "Between the Worlds," has been made. There will not be a generally sponsored poetry poll this month, as all the donations went to sponsor specific poems. The generally sponsored poetry poll has been posted thanks to another donation.

February's donors include: ellenmillion, xjenavivex, ladyqkat, wcg, beetiger, nhpeacenik, dianavillliers, minor_architect, dreamwriteremmy, moosl, janetmiles, and zianuray. Wow, that's a lot! Please welcome new donors xjenavivex, wcg, and dreamwriteremmy. Huzzah! Thank you all for your support. A discussion of a possible donor perk, blog badges, is here.

If you haven't already heard about this, check out the new Rose and Bay Awards for excellence in cyberfunded creativity. The categories are Art, Fiction, Poetry, Other Project, and Patron. For the 2010 round of awards, the Poetry Fishbowl project has been nominated in the Poetry Category and three fishbowl donors have been nominated in the Patron category. Voting is now open February 1-28, so please vote for your favorite poetry project and patron.

The Poetry Fishbowl project also has a permanent landing page.

Thank you!

This feedback is most appreciated. *hugs*

Of the remaining poems, let's see...

"To Have a Dream"
Because it would be cool to have another MLK poem released during Black History Month. In this one his speech is playing to an android nanny.

"Our Dreams Take Flight"
Because if you want people to build ships, don't speak to them of hammers and supplies; instead teach them to yearn for the sea -- or in this case, for space. I want people to build ships.

"The Bonecage"
Because so many people I know are living with some kind of physical limitation(s), and I think they would appreciate this poem.
