Call for Good News

I often blog a lot about intense and controversial topics, because part of my responsibility includes spreading information. Too much of that can lead to burnout, though, both for readers and for bloggers.

So, I'm making an effort to increase the amount of positive, noncontroversial news. What "good news" have you heard recently? In what ways is the world becoming a better place? What cool discoveries or inventions have people made? Please share links or stories in the comments below. Remember, "Energy flows where attention goes." Let's send it somewhere good!

The job situation seems to be getting better. Not only me, but all of my friends that have been desperately unemployed for the last several months have jobs. They may not be the best jobs, but they are keeping us in our apartments and keeping our internet connected. So, I see this as a good sign!

Thank you. It has been awful at times.

That's so good to hear. I hope it works out well for everyone.
We have some new restrictions on mercury emissions to the air for cement plants. A few new reductions in hazardous air pollutants are coming along. Whether anyone believes it or not, going over the air quality standards for the original regulated pollutants (CO, NOx, SO2, ozone, lead, and "particulate matter" = smoke or soot) was common in many major US cities back when the US EPA started regulating these things. Now we still get ozone, but much less than we did, and going over the limits on the others is rare.
Mercury is dire stuff. Anything we can do to keep it out of people's bodies is terrific.
