Thoughts on Kindle

I'm observing the news about the Kindle reader as an aspect of electronic publishing. Here is an interesting review of Kindle from a new user.

I dunno about the Kindle, but I saw a Sony eReader in Border's today, and was able to hold it and use it. It reminded me of one of those data padds from Star Trek.
I saw a short review of a Sony pad in Wired magazine recently ... it looked cool enough to mark it as a maybe-buy-someday thing. Does anyone know how this Kindle compares? Does this thing have a website?

I guess I'll go try out my Google-fu.
www.amazon.com/kindle
It doesn't compare at all. The Kindle is a wireless device. The Sony e-book reader is... an e-book reader. :)
okay, I guess I'm not understanding the difference. From what I saw on the kindle website, it's a wireless device ... meant to be used to read e-books taht you can buy from Amazon. No?

Saying the Kindle is a "wireless device" isn't terribly meaningful in this context -- cell phones, tv remotes, laptops and Clappers are all "wireless devices," but they each serve a different function.
It's of paramount importance, though. It's what makes it not an e-book reader, but a totally new device.

This is my first entry musing about why the wireless part is important.

This is my review of the Kindle after using it for a while.

Hope those help you in your evaluating process. :)
thank you!
