Yule Event Report

We had fun with our Yule event yesterday.  A lot of people arrived late, but we managed to juggle the schedule so that everything got done and we didn't run too much overtime.  We sang holiday carols, exchanged gifts, and shared stories about holiday traditions.  The feast included Egyptian leg of lamb, couscous, eggplant mousaka, rice pudding, pomegranate punch, and spice cake.  We also had a couple of birds carved from apples -- very cute!

The main ritual was done entirely by candlelight.  We started out with a few altar candles and then lit many more candles around the room.  This ritual had an Egyptian theme, working with Isis, Ma'at, and Horus.  We even had some myrrh resin burning on charcoal.

Today was the cookie exchange, and we just got home from that.  I'm looking forward to sampling the results.

Sounds like a fabulous time was had by all! I've got very fond memories of the Musical Yule that Chris the Drummer and others held at Fieldhaven 3 years ago. Candle light RULES!
That Musical Yule was one of our best.

Yesterday we finally got around to hanging a big wall sconce with 9 candle glasses. So we had that, the 8-glass one on the south wall, and the 9-piece one that stands on top of the woodstove. Plus a couple clusters of individual candles, and the altar candles. By the time we were done setting them all on fire, we had a reasonable amount of beautifully shimmering light in the room. Candlelight is a favorite way of adding natural, magical energy to a ritual when we can't do one outdoors.
There is just something about a living flame. It attracts Spirit just as sure as a light attracts moths. And it is physical evidence that the Fire Elementals are adding their warmth to a ceremony. Good stuff indeed!
*laugh* Oh, they were. The house got too warm. We had to turn down the furnace and open the door to the upstairs! I was glad it wasn't a ritual where we lit the woodstove.
