... sorry about that. I looked for a lock dingbat and couldn't see it. Locked posts drive me nuts because I usually can't spot the lock.

You're good at storytelling, and getting better with practice. Thanks for reposting here.

I usually don't put mostly-locked journals on my Friends list, so as to minimize the challenge of spotting the locks, but for donors and some regulars I do Friend them.
I take it the prompt was falling snow?
... snow that was not H2O, actually. I listed several options, and that one grew into this vignette.

Marvelous! I want to know more!
Likewise!
Ah. Interesting. :)
It's cool, and it seems to imply a larger story. Will you be writing more?

I wonder if the idea of deadly rain (or other precipitation) was something people only started to have once we invented bombs and incendiary devices and Greek fire and stuff, or whether even before we had those things, we imagined what it would be like if rain and stuff harmed us when it touched us. I guess it's extra potent in our imaginations now that we know about things like fallout or acid rain, but maybe it existed in legend long ago--it would be interesting to find out.

The mention of animal souls is intriguing.

Good point about volcanoes! And frankly, even hail and rain can be plenty destructive.

What time period are you thinking of? Horses makes me automatically think pre-automobiles, and yet, of course, people still live and work with horses today, too, so... But the woman had long skirts on too, yes (dang; I'm writing this in a screen where all I can see is your comment and this response I'm typing...)

Anyway, I'm glad that you're going to write more!

(and the angelic-animal soul combination is very cool)
>>I would imagine that at least in some places it probably existed before that - even before there were bombs, there were volcanoes, and they cause Very Problematic Things to fall from the sky. <<

Rain of rocks, rain of mud, boiling rain ... I think rain of acid too, though not strong enough to dissolve creatures.
