Here, Borrow This Boot

A friend of mine recently mentioned having trouble with rude replies in blogspace. Some thoughts on this topic ...

1) In your profile, define what you consider to be acceptable behavior for your blog. Some people don't want vulgar language, some people don't want logical fallacies, some people don't want politics -- whatever your boundaries are, let your audience know.

2) Also state your policy for dealing with inappropriate posts: ignore, disemvowel, delete, etc.

3) If inappropriate posts create a problem on your blog, be willing to moderate. The "boot" icon appearing with this post is a popular one for moderation posts.

LoL - disemvowel!

Nooo! My vowels! (sorry, couldn't help myself - it made me snort-giggle my lunch and burn my mouth :)
The idea with disemvoweling is that, by removing the vowels from an inappropriate post, it can be left in place so that people who wish to read it can still do so by exerting some mental effort -- but it won't hit people in the face if they don't exert that effort.
Oh, of course, I just find the term amusing :)
