Buy Nothing Day

Today is Buy Nothing Day, a protest against the overblown and sometimes dangerous consumerism of Black Friday. People have even been killed on Black Friday due to shopping-related causes. Buy Nothing Day has its own website and a Wikipedia article too.

We decided to stay home today. Shopping is no fun surrounded by hordes of frantic people.

I'm Canadian and the American stores try to entice us to shop on Black Friday. I won't do it. America isn't the only ne trying to recover from the economical crisis. I'd stay on my side of the border and give my money to stores that need it here.

Also, my son said his teacher was taking the day off to go to Black Friday. I just might call the school on that.
