Discussion of Ebook Sales

There is a discussion going over on crowdfunding about one author's experiences selling ebooks through a publisher vs. self-publishing them, and how the prices affect sales. The sample numbers are small, but interesting. More such data would be very valuable.

Ahem. Just thought I'd point out the code is lj user , not lj comm. :-)
LJ user creates the person dingbat, and LJ comm creates the community dingbat. What I did wrong was transpose a couple of symbols in the code there. *grin* And figured out what was wrong, and fixed it.
Odd. I thought it was lj user always, and the dingbat it used depended on whether it was a user or a comm.

At any rate, lj user works for both users and communities, dingbats notwithstanding.
I've not bee a fan of e-books outside of the realm of text books. I still prefer the sensory experience and convenience that is only possible with the traditional printed book.

Few things am I old fashioned on, however, I guess this is just one of them! LOL
I'm not a fan of ebooks for most purposes. I find paper books more convenient and far more durable. I already spend so much time on the computer that more is not good for my body.

But ebooks are helping to break the stranglehold of the publishing industry, in ways that are sometimes very valuable. So I keep an eye on them.

Also, some things are better as ebooks. Electronic cookbook = print out recipes as needed, and it's no big deal if they wind up covered in flour or milk, you just reprint them next time. Craft books, same thing. Coloring books or other art books can be enjoyed indefinitely through reprinting. Reference books that would be insanely expensive to print on paper can be affordable as ebooks, where it's better to have a not-so-convenient copy than nothing at all.
As to the cookbook point, we print a lot of recipes off line from sources such as www.vegcooking.com

Rather than blow through paper reprinting them when they get gooped up, we use plastic page protectors to cut down on the waste of paper. We have a giant black three ring binder of printed recipes that is a makeshift Kitchen BOS.

Blessings!
