After a few months of practice with this camera, I'm turning out some servicable snapshots, and a few that are actually good. I know the camera's undercutting my skill somewhat because I was better shooting a film camera.

Not off the top of my head. But if I can't get decent photos out of that camera, I'll know it's my own fault, because my partner's pictures are excellent.

Yeah, I keep trying to do closeups with a camera that just is not designed for that kind of work. My butterfly meadow is all over caterpillars by now. I haven't spotted a chrysalis yet this year, but I keep hoping.

My camera has no self-timer, and indeed, has a rounded case so is incapable of sitting upright. Previously I have tried bracing it against solid objects such as fenceposts, but that doesn't seem to improve the picture quality. Bracing my elbow against my body, however, does help.

My partner's camera has not only a self-timer but a trigger cable and a tripod.
