Plans and Goals

Sometimes it helps to talk out the things you want to do and the projects you want to work on, and get cheers for stuff you've finished.

What are some of your upcoming plans and goals?
Are any of them things you'll need help with, and if so, what kind of help?
What are some plans/goals that you have recently completed?

>>Right now I'm having a lot of trouble with capturing people in a frame<<

It sounds like that's something that just takes practice. The framing on my camera is hard because the parallax is really bad, so it's hard to adjust for that.

>>I'm hoping that I'll make another short film soon . . . but I always become hesitant because I don't have Final Cut, which I'm used to now. The software helps, but I just have to remind myself it's me who makes the film worth watching.<<

Tools and talent are two aspects of quality output. Even if you don't have the perfect tools right now, you can still practice and that will help your skills improve. It's pretty much where I'm at with my little camera too. Someday I'll get one that's got more room for me to grow into.

I'm not using a SLR camera. I'm using a $20 digital camera that I bought to see if it would survive my hot little hands and if I could use it. (Yes and yes, so that experiment was a success.) At some point I will upgrade to a digital camera more suited to my skill. My partner has one that I'm going to explore when I have time, because he's pretty much outgrown it and also wants an upgrade.

>> Do you have your photos anywhere? <<

Yes, some are on this blog, under the "photography" tag:

There are others over on Gaiatribe, same tag:

After a few months of practice with this camera, I'm turning out some servicable snapshots, and a few that are actually good. I know the camera's undercutting my skill somewhat because I was better shooting a film camera.

>> And do you know what model does your partner has? <<

Not off the top of my head. But if I can't get decent photos out of that camera, I'll know it's my own fault, because my partner's pictures are excellent.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, I keep trying to do closeups with a camera that just is not designed for that kind of work. My butterfly meadow is all over caterpillars by now. I haven't spotted a chrysalis yet this year, but I keep hoping.

My camera has no self-timer, and indeed, has a rounded case so is incapable of sitting upright. Previously I have tried bracing it against solid objects such as fenceposts, but that doesn't seem to improve the picture quality. Bracing my elbow against my body, however, does help.

My partner's camera has not only a self-timer but a trigger cable and a tripod.
