Politics and Civilization

I recently finished a three-part Course for the Grey School of Wizardry, "Kherishdar Civilization," which incorporates "The Aphorisms of Kherishdar" series by M.C.A. Hogarth. It uses science fiction stories to teach students about sociology, politics, community, and self-awareness.

So I was rather intrigued by this article about "the politics of civilization." It discusses what civilization means, where (global and French) society is going, and where it should be going. The conclusion is that we're not doing a very good job of creating a world in which a happy, productive life is reasonably achievable for most people.

Maybe the kids I'm teaching today will do better in tomorrow's world.

Pretty interesting article, I agree. I think that government is moving more towards a war between themselves and religion the way things have been going. It seems that the line is bluring between the separation of church and state. A friend brought this up last night-that he didn't understand about marriage because a lot of people are married in a church, and are required to be lawfully married. He argues that he sees no separation between the church and the state with the very institution of marriage. Interesting stuff to think about ;)
