What does a tropical storm look like?

Barrier Island Girl shares pictures of beachfront activity relating to Tropical Storm Claudette. This is worth a look for naturalists, weather-watchers, and writers whose characters face tempestuous weather.

Thank you very much for your recommendation.

I live on a barrier island and I am a photographer. Life doesn't get much better, except when we experience storms. I volunteer for the Gulf Islands National Park, patroling for sea turtles before dawn early in the season, then add nest-sitting at night in late summer and early fall. Tropical storms and hurricanes can quickly wash away the nests of our threatened and endangered sea turtles. As it is the survival rate of a hatchling is 1 in 1,000 at best; 1 in 10,000 at worst. Luckily Claudette did not cause much damage. Woo hoo!

Thanks again for the recommendation. I hope you have the opportunity to visit our little paradise someday.

I have really enjoyed your posts about nesting sea turtles. They are a vital part of the ocean ecosystem. I've seen the Gulf from Texas and Louisiana before, but never a turtle nesting ground, so I would love to see that.

You might also enjoy another of my blogs, Gaiatribe, which is where I post much of my environmental stuff:
