Poem: "Ugly Ducklings"

This poem won the poll by a landslide, 10 to 1! It comes from the August 4, 2009 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from ellenmillion about puberty, plus this photo.


Ugly Ducklings


Puberty is
a long swim
in a cold lake,
covered head to toe
in hideous gray feathers
and the horrible uncertainty
of not knowing whether
you will turn out
to be a swan
after all.
