Do you folks think something similar would be helpful in boosting the number of participants in my Poetry Fishbowls? Say, posting an extra poem if there's a first-time prompter that month? Would such a thing appeal to you?

Of course, to attract new prompters to your Fishbowls and get those extras, we've got to spread the word. Admittedly, I don't promote the Fishbowls on my LJ...because most of my Friends List is on your Friends List, too. I do announce them on Twitter, though, since I figure every little bit helps.

But other LJ postings are also nice because there's always a chance that someone who's just browsing your blog will see the mention of mine. I've got a lot of overlap with

I've had a handful of folks become her fans by way of my blog, just that I know of because they said so.
I think you've just identified another big reason why I've been promoting the Fishbowls on Twitter rather than on LJ. On Twitter, I can simply click a sidebar link and see all mentions of my username by other users of the service. So if I "tweet" about something that someone else "re-tweets," I can easily see who did that and when. On LJ, unless someone leaves me or the person I'm promoting a comment, I have no idea if my post has been read, linked to, or followed to its source. And in many cases, people simply don't give me that kind of feedback...which leaves me to doubt my post's effectiveness.
Does that make more sense?

It's okay. You can do whatever advertising is convenient for you, or none, and I won't be offended about it.

That's a good point. Wordpress has an effective "pingback" feature that lets you see if someone is talking about a post you made. LJ really doesn't, unless you happen to see something on your Friends list.
Out of curiosity, have you ever seen anyone retweet a fishbowl?
*brain chuffs into action* Would you be interested in a tweet-sized poem that you could broadcast on Twitter? I know that some people are writing poetry on Twitter, especially haiku, but I've largely ignored the practice -- except for occasional references to its cleverness -- because I don't use Twitter. It hadn't occurred to me before that friends of mine who Twitter might serve as an access point.

Not yet, but I have seen someone re-tweet my pointer to "The Sky-Eyes and the Earth-Hearts." Now he's on the list of people I'm currently following. :)

Of course! If you find that you like writing Twitter poetry, I could set up an account for the purpose of showcasing them. Just let me know.

Which includes me. *laughs* I haven't written any haiku lately, though. Most of my writing time is going into the Minor stories! ;)

This sounds good.
As for expanding the number of participants via our f-lists, well, signal-boosting is a good way to start.
