Poem: "The Invocation Protocol"

This poem was inspired by a prompt from ellenmillion and is the free poem for the July 2009 Poetry Fishbowl.

The Invocation Protocol

What our ancestors
accomplished with candles,
we accomplish with electronics.
Now the glowing screen
can yield not just light
but enlightenment.

With the discovery of
the Invocation Protocol,
we can summon deities into databanks,
no longer hindered by merely human stamina.

With a call to Thor
(and a bottomless supply of virtual beer)
we gained perfect control over the climate.
Put the right drum rhythm on infinite loop,
pipe in some hot peppers,
and Ogun will map all the iron deposits on Earth.
Ishtar, mighty Ishtar,
posted Her own image
and men everywhere bowed down in worship,
then took what they had learned to mortal women
and there was marital bliss.

It was all going great –
a new golden age –

until someone
invoked Eris and
the whole net unraveled
into glorious chaos.

Beautiful poem.

And, actually pretty funny in it's uncomfortable truth as well.
Yes, it never pays to toy with the gods.

The fishbowl is still open if you want to give me a prompt.
Thank you. Let me think about it. I am so panicked and freaked out at the moment by the whole needing-a-dentist-with-no-money thing that I am hard-pressed to come up with any creativity whatsoever. But, if something comes to me, I promise I will. :-)
I liked it! Nice job.

hmm...my prompt is "Loving you."
From this I got "The Myth of Galatea." A brief description of the poem is here:http://ysabetwordsmith.livejournal.com/695008.html?thread=3577056#t3577056
Darkly humorous. :)

I like the fact that Ishar posted Her own image. :P
... something like an updated version of these:

*lol* Yep. For some strange reason, I see Her posting her own image(s) on Twitter, Facebook and all assorted social networking sites.
This actually turned into another poem, "How the Goddesses Invented Cyberspace."
XD

HAIL ERIS! ALL HAIL DISCORDIA!
FNORD.
Gerald Fnord? :-)
