Cristina is the granddaughter of Mihaela, daughter of Cornel and Anne the baker's wife, younger sister of Andreea. Cristina and Andreea work in their father's bakery, where Cristina has a knack for making braided loaves.

Mihaela -- She has fair skin, brown eyes, and long graying brown hair. She is the mother of Anne the baker's wife, mother-in-law of Cornel, and grandmother of granddaughters Andreea and Cristina. Mihaela works at a little restaurant with Anne, feeding people when the village gets busy.

Dalca Lupu -- She has fair skin, orange-amber eyes, and long dreadlocked hair in shades of brown, red, and blonde decorated with wrapped threads and beads and tiny charms. Several gold studs adorn her face: one in each ear, one just below her nose, and two underneath her lower lip. She even has tattoos, blue ink running up and down both arms. Dalca is a werewolf, but she wears clothes all the time, layers of bright colors and fanciful textures. The other werewolves think it's odd, but they don't bother her about it. She is a storyteller who travels far and wide, often stopping in the village.

Her wolf form is brindled in shades of fawn, tan, and black.

Zamfir Lazarescu -- He has fair skin, brown eyes, and short brown hair. He typically wears a white shirt with a brown suit and matching hat. He drives a small wagon pulled by a bay horse. The wagon has post holders at the corners so it can haul tall loads or support a cover against inclement weather. Zamfir is a trader who deals in all sorts of oddities from rare books to fanciful bottles. He carries some spices and teas. He also makes jewelry, most often from wire and semiprecious stones, sometimes wooden or ceramic beads, but he can also work with precious metals and gems. The variety of goods lets Zamfir trade anywhere and everywhere, from large cities to small villages. He travels around much of Transylvania but rarely leaves it. He is a vampire who appreciates being able to find donors in the village.
