These are the setting notes for "A Haven That Purifies Emotions" from the fourth floor.


4th Floor: Dance Studio 1 Charles Weidman, Dance Studio 2 Fred Astaire, Lotus Room, private workout rooms, Makeba Music Center, Parents Lounge with Sitting Area, Resources Wall, Music Corner, Family Lounge, Youth Area with Messy Play Room, Sensory Room, Teen Lounge, Padded Play Gym, Wild Rumpus Room, Max's Nap Room


Hanson Hall has several areas devoted to dance and movement.

This floor plan shows Dance Studio 1 Charles Weidman.  It has a black rubber floor and a capacity up to 40 people for dance classes.

This floor plan shows Dance Studio 2 Fred Astaire.  It has a wooden floor; see the right end.  It can hold up to 100 people for classes.

The Lotus Room is a small room with short gray carpet and lavender walls, which can hold up to 12 people for physical activities or 20 seated for a presentation.  It's on the 4th floor.

Hanson Hall rents a variety of spaces for working out.

The small workout rooms have a linoleum floor.  They are available furnished or unfurnished, and can hold a few pieces of exercise equipment.
 
The medium workout rooms have firm rubber mats on the floor, wall mirrors, and suspension gear on the ceiling.  They have closets, shelves, and other storage space.  They are available furnished or unfurnished, and can hold a wide variety of exercise equipment.
 

Makeba Music Center

 The Makeba Music Center includes a tiny music store, a recording studio, private music studios, practice rooms, a jam session room, and a small theatre for acoustic performances.  Its rooms are soundproofed.

The music store carries loose parts for instruments and sound equipment, instrument care supplies, small new instruments that are easy for anyone to play, and a few larger used instruments. Sheet music and textbooks cover a variety of genres and time periods.
 
The recording studio control room has banks of equipment for recording and manipulating music.  The recording studio performance room has space for producing music and microphones to pick up the sounds for recording.
 
Private studios are small and can be used for whatever musical setup the renter desires.  This one features electronic keyboards arrayed around a desk and chair.  Behind that is a leather hide-a-bed couch.
 
Band studios are large enough to fit several people.
 
Practice rooms come in several sizes.  Some can be reserved on a schedule, often used for lessons.  Others are first come, first served. 

The small rooms are the size of a closet, with just enough space for a chair and a music stand.
 
The medium rooms come with a piano and bench as well as a music stand and chair.  They are comfortable for lessons with a student and teacher, or for 2-3 musicians.

The large practice rooms include a blackboard, a piano and bench, and enough space for multiple musicians.
 
The Jam Session Room includes a piano, a bookcase of musical references, several side tables for holding equipment, chairs, and benches.  It is large enough for a bardic circle of about a dozen people, or several dozen people in chairs arranged in rows for a performance.  It has some scheduled activities, and otherwise is free for members to use for casual gatherings.
 
The Music Theatre is a medium-sized room that can hold about three dozen people in the audience plus an ensemble on stage.  One end of the room has a raised wooden stage with a piano and room for multiple musicians.
 

Parents Lounge

The Parents Lounge includes a sitting area around an electric fireplace.  The Parent Resources Wall offers books and other materials.  The music corner has a small wooden stage.
 

The Family Lounge is on the 4th floor between the adult and youth areas.  It includes a viewscreen, couches, tables and chairs, and a wall of built-in shelves for books and toys.

 
Youth Area

The Youth Area includes several rooms for children and teens.  All of them are soundproofed for everyone's comfort.  The Youth Area is on the 4th floor near the dance rooms.

The Messy Play Room has a concrete floor, a butler sink, closets and storage cabinets for supplies.  It can be set up to serve any age from infant to adult.

The Sensory Room features soft seating, many light displays, and touchy-feely panels.
 
The Teen Lounge has two rooms.  One has a couch and bench, a cabinet of games, and a snack bar.  The other has easy chairs and small tables for socializing.

The Padded Play Gym is a large room that provides space for children under 13 to run and play.  The walls are soundproofed.
 
The Wild Rumpus Room is an indoor nature playground for ages 5 and up.  This playhouse resembles a giant tree trunk.  This playhouse is made like a basket. Inside it has wooden mountains and a table of toys.  Costumes invite dress-up play.

Located beside the Wild Rumpus Room, Max's Nap Room includes a row of twin-size beds and beanbags where children can rest.
