Poem: "Ditched"

The following poem was inspired by a photograph posted on naturesbeauty. I've taken to posting photo-inspired poems online so that people can see the matching pictures.

Ditched

Found dead in a ditch,
wrapped in plastic,
a few miles north of the city

they lie tangled together
in a final embrace.

Stumps exposed,
wraps whipping in the wind
like angel shrouds,

two Christmas trees
crowd against the fence.

Once bedecked and admired,
now stripped and abandoned
in this lonely place

they stand for everything
we pretend to want for a while.
