Poem: "Tempestry"
This poem came out of the January 5, 2021 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from
fuzzyred. It also fills the "Day One" square in my 1-3-21 card for the Fresh Starts Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by a pool with
fuzzyred,
ng_moonmoth,
janetmiles, and
edorfaus. It belongs to the series Arts and Crafts America.

Activist women will crochet the year
One row a day, like a calendar's line,
Showing the world that the future is here:
Colors and stitches, a clear warning sign.
One row a day, like a calendar's line:
Come the new year and it's thirty below.
Colors and stitches, a clear warning sign,
Picked out in yarn that's as white as the snow.
Come the new year and it's thirty below,
Cozy inside as the afghans begin
Picked out in yarn that's as white as the snow --
But later on it will whisper of sin.
Cozy inside as the afghans begin:
Showers in April chase winter away,
But later on it will whisper of sin --
Eighty degrees and it's not even May.
Showers in April chase winter away,
Bright yellow yarn but no sun to be seen.
Eighty degrees and it's not even May;
Crochet in orange, but missing the green.
Bright yellow yarn but no sun to be seen,
Only the gray of the clouds overhead.
Crochet in orange, but missing the green --
Then it gets hotter; the color turns red.
Only the grays of the clouds overhead
Save us from baking in summer's fierce sun.
Then it gets hotter; the color turns red --
Humans begin to regret what they've done.
Save us from baking in summer's fierce sun:
Over a hundred, the color is brick.
Humans begin to regret what they've done ...
It's not enough, and now they're getting sick.
Over a hundred, the color is brick;
There's not another for one-ten degrees.
It's not enough, and now they're getting sick,
Heat waves are bringing the world to its knees.
There's not another for one-ten degrees;
All we can do is pray that it goes down.
Heat waves are bringing the world to its knees;
Everything's drying, the land turning brown.
All we can do is pray that it goes down.
Autumn is coming; it's seventy here.
Everything's drying, the land turning brown --
Light orange yarn, but the grasses are sere.
Autumn is coming; it's seventy here.
Yellow-green-yellow, but no hint of rain.
Light orange yarn, but the grasses are sere:
Everyone everywhere's feeling the pain.
Yellow-green-yellow, but no hint of rain.
People start thinking they might really die.
Everyone everywhere's feeling the pain --
Then comes the thunderstorm, shaking the sky.
People start thinking they might really die,
Climate change starting to put on the squeeze.
Then comes the thunderstorm, shaking the sky ...
Thirty degrees, and the rain starts to freeze.
Climate change starting to put on the squeeze --
People get worried and start to think twice.
Thirty degrees, and the rain starts to freeze:
Everything's skating on very thin ice
People get worried and start to think twice.
Showing the world that the future is here,
Everything's skating on very thin ice.
Activist women will crochet the year.

Notes:
The Pantoum was originally a Malaysian form of poetry, but was adopted and adapted by the French and became very popular with them, Fouinet, Hugo and Baudelaire, being amongst the foremost users of this form. The French liked it probably because of the way the quatrains were linked to each other, making it similar to existing French forms.
Make a temperature afghan or other project.
This tutorial brilliantly uses color to indicate temperature and stitch to show weather.
