The Strange Shapes of Clouds
-- a shape poem

Cumulonimbus clouds are thunderheads
that spread out high and flat overhead
with a tall column underneath
where gray and white tufts
billow up into the sky
catching the sunlight
until they finally
begin to rain.

Cirrus       clouds
          are              fluffy   bits
of white            drifting
              around         the
   top                    of              the sky.

Mammutus            hang         below a layer.
                   clouds         down

          Lenticular
clouds               form
        fluffy circles.

Stratus clouds form a solid sheet of low vapor
thick enough to block out the sunlight above.

The strange shapes of clouds
tell us about their nature.
