RIP Racial Dotmap
I was horrified to find that the racial dotmap of America will be taken down at the end of December.
Racial Dot Map
This map, which uses 2010 Census data, no longer accurately reflects the racial/ethnic composition and distribution of the U.S. population and will be taken off our site on Dec. 31, 2021. The 2020 census data, released on Aug. 12, 2021, provides a new snapshot of the country, and we strongly encourage the use of the most recent data. We hope to produce a new racial dot map based on 2020 data, but doing so is contingent on our ability to secure adequate funding. Learn more about the impact of the racial dot map.
What the hell, dudes, it's all we had! So it's outdated, put a note about that and leave it up. If you want to add a new one, fine, but keep the original for comparison. People use this thing all the time.
I use it fairly often for demographic layout of cities/neighborhoods and to gauge population densities. It's one of my favorite writing tools, and it's not replaceable. There's nothing else nationwide for demographics, and finding one for any given large city is hit or miss. Forget anything smaller.
