Parts Presentation

On Wednesday we bought something that needed assembly.  I've seen a lot of assembly projects, with varying levels of competence in presentation.  This is one of the better ones.  The screws are all threaded through holes in a piece of cardstock, which has their part name and number of items printed on it.  This made it much easier to identify and retrieve each piece as needed.  (There is even 1 extra screw per size, which makes sense because it wasn't a cheap item to assemble, and the numbers reflect that.)  Often everything is just jumbled together in a baggie.  This is cheap, elegant, and effective.

I'd only tweak two things:

1) The holes are all the same size, but the screws aren't.  This means the thicker screws stayed put just fine, but the narrower and shorter ones wanted to wiggle loose.  Holes should be sized to each screw diameter.

2) The pictures are all the same generic screw.  It would be clearer if the pictures matched the different sizes of screws.

Anyhow, I present this as a rare example of competence in manufacturing.  If you make products for sale that need assembly, consider something like this to organize the parts.

This card holds the screws for a recent project.
