Coping Skills: Music

Folks have mentioned an interest in questions and conversations that make them think. So I've decided to offer more of those. This is the current list of coping skills.

2. Play an instrument, sing, dance, act

Performance arts are great for expressing emotions.  What kinds do you enjoy?

I sang in the chorus when I was in high school (and I was taking voice lessons along with my piano lessons. A well-brought-up- young lady was expected to be able to sing and play the piano, at least according to my female relatives. And my piano teacher was a cantor, and had performed as an operatic basso in Vienna.) I find that singing can be very
therapeutic, especially if you're singing something that needs to be sung LOUD! At the beginnning of the pandemic, that was how I'd check to see whether I was developing shortness of breath. I'd launch into the first few bars of the alto part of the Hallelujah Chorus and see how my breathing was. Or one of Leslie Fish's more rousing compositions (such as "Hope Eyrie" or "Hymn to the Night-Mare").
