I fed the birds. I've seen a squirrel, a flock of sparrows, several cardinals, and a downy woodpecker. Then when I was walking around the yard, I flushed a great horned owl from the southeast corner of the yard, who flew low toward the ritual meadow in the northeast. :D
I also saw some interesting gnaw marks on a sapling, several feet off the ground. It's not rabbit, too high up for that. Might be deer, they're tall enough and eat bark in winter; but deer, like rabbits, typically nip off whole twigs leaving an angled cut mark. This was rough gnawing. It was probably a squirrel.
