Cyberfunded Creativity

One of the things I'm avidly studying is the rise of cyberfunded creativity, in which a writer or artist makes money by selling things directly to their audience online. It tends to involve a high level of enthusiasm and interaction, and the results are often breathtaking. Here are three people on LiveJournal who do some kind of cyberfunded creativity:

haikujaguar uploads artwork and fiction, has worked with audience prompts, and also does divination with a unique "Balance Cards" deck.
chlorophyta uploads sketches and other artwork.
shadesong uploads fiction, and has worked with audience prompts. See also windtunneldream for the latest iteration.

So, I'm encouraging people who are interested in this phenomenon to help spread it. I've added "cyberfunded creativity" to my Interests list. If you're interested too, please add the topic to your Interests list and check out what some of these folks are doing. Especially if, like me, you're less than thrilled with the colorfully packaged slush that some of the Big Houses are trying to fob off on consumers these days. Cyberfunded creativity gives you a chance to put your folding vote where it will get you exactly what you want and help support someone whose work you admire.

EDIT: Thank you, everyone who added "cyberfunded creativity" to your Interests. Here's another author for you to enjoy:
jfesmire writes fantasy fiction and has a novel going up in Podiobooks format.

Amen!

I am going to work toward cyberfunding my work this year...
That's something I have in mind for 2008 myself. Some of my fans have been hounding me for years. I wanted to wait and see what kind of audience developed in my blog, what kind of stuff people like here. I've got some good ideas, and I'll be asking for more input in early January. Then I'll gradually start making some options available.
If you want to see that --

This is different than what I was aiming for, but it's got potential too. Thanks for the tip.
Are you familiar with ursulav? She's all about the cyberfunded creativity. EVERYONE should be familiar with her, and her rabid fans (such as myself) will make sure everyone IS with unsolicited advertisements like this.

You can check out her art at her DeviantART account or her own site, Metal And Magic.
I have seen her art. Very evocative, and so many different styles!
*wavewave* I don't regularly do it, but I do ask for (and get) donations for special events.
Ah, excellent! I'll have to keep an eye out for that. Thanks for chiming in.
If you could mention me in your next "Cyberfunded Creativity" post, that would be awesome.

Meanwhile, people can listen to two of my books, Children of Rhatlan and Tamshi's Imp at Podiobooks.Com. Donations are greatly appreciated.
(Psst: there's only one "h" in my name! :) )
Ooops, sorry. I fixed it.
