Notes for "Hope and Faith in Their Abilities"

Here are the notes for "Hope and Faith in Their Abilities."

“Followership is a discipline of supporting leaders and helping them to lead well. It is not submission, but the wise and good care of leaders, done out of a sense of gratitude for their willingness to take on the responsibilities of leadership, and a sense of hope and faith in their abilities and potential.”
Reverend Paul Beedle

Mandy's Diner has a central bar flanked by a left wing and a right wing. The kitchen lies behind them. Independent diners are small, agile businesses capable of quick response to changing circumstances. Thus Mandy's became the first restaurant to offer halal-certified foods, with intent to expand as they find more resources.

Wudumate is a washroom appliance designed for Islamic ablutions. Their price approximates the range of prices for toilets. They are straightforward to install, and the Wudumate Compact version takes up about the same space as a toilet.

Muslims are required to eat only halal foods. However, the exact standards of halal certification vary across countries. Fresh fruits and vegetables typically do not require labels. Bear in mind, though, that anything which is halal by category can become haram if contaminated with forbidden substances. For this reason, some Muslims prefer to eat only halal-certified products unless they've grown it themselves.

Read about Syrian cuisine. The first three items below are hippie and vegetarian staples; the others were among the simplest for Mandy's Diner to add in a hurry.

Falafel (فلافل)
a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both.

Hummus (حمص)
a dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic.
This can be made in a vast array of flavors.

Tabbouleh (تبولة)
bulgur, finely chopped parsley, mint, tomato, spring onion, with lemon juice, olive oil and seasonings.
It can also be made with quinoa.

Kebab (كباب)
Grilled meat.

Halweh (حلوة)
A slab of sesame paste studded with fruit and candy/sweets.
You can buy chocolate, vanilla, and marbled versions or make your own in assorted flavors.

Za'atar
Za'atar is a spice blend that is commonly found in Lebanon, Jordan, North Africa, Turkey and Syria.
Ingredients: organic white sesame seeds, organic thyme, organic sumac, organic marjoram, organic savory, and traces of salt.
You can buy za'atar online or make it yourself.

A business incubator has pros and cons. This page lists some by state.

Read about park sizes and the distances people will travel to reach them. People will go farther for a big park or uncommon facilities, but most won't go as far as you might think.

Insha Allah means "if God wills." It's basically an Arabic version of "Lord and weather willing." Muslims say this as a reminder that all human plans are tentative. However, it's meant to cover unforseen circumstances like a power outage, not personal carelessness or laziness.
