Poem: "In the Shade of the Mighty Oak"

This was the linkback perk poem for the August 4, 2020 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was originally hosted by Dreamwidth user Dialecticdreamer.  It came out of the May 2020 Creative Jam.

"In the Shade of the Mighty Oak"

Permaculture is about
mimicking nature.

Plenty can be done
simply by observing
the natural world and
then encouraging
its desirable parts.

Much more can be done
by adding technology
and science to increase
knowledge and precision,
from measuring rainfall
to modifying soil acidity.

In the shade of the mighty oak
grow smaller paw paw trees and
hazelnut bushes, flanked by
gooseberries and currants.

Permaculture guilds use diversity to create a mini-ecosystem.  This handbook details several examples including an oak guild.  Oak forests come in several types and host many species of plants.  If you want to plant an oak guild, model it on the oak forests of your area for best results.
