Fa Bo Lei -- He has tawny skin, almond-shaped brown eyes, and short black hair. Due to an ankle injury, he walks with a limp and cannot run faster than a jog (which he prefers not to do). His heritage is Chinese. He speaks Arabic, Dhivehi, English, French, Greek, Italian, and Mandarin Chinese. He moved to the Maldives on Thursday, January 7, 2016. He is 36 years old in 2026.
Bo Lei got drafted into the army, but almost immediately suffered a serious injury that left him unable to run, so they discharged him. His parents were unwilling to support him, considering him a disgrace. Unable to do most normal jobs, at 14 Bo Lei went to work as a janitor cleaning up after the local sculptors who made replica statues for Europeans. He was young enough to learn languages easily, and soon picked up English, French, Greek, Italian. This got him a job at the front desk at 15, taking orders from foreigners. He still loved touching the stone, though, and when one sculptor saw this, he offered to teach Bo Lei the craft. By age 18, Bo Lei had not only developed enough skill to sell his statues, but also introduced the practice of selling parts of broken statues because they resemble historic artifacts ravaged by time. His super-speed gave him an advantage, though he restricted it to private time because it made other people uncomfortable. However, he was frustrated by the lack of creative opportunity and low pay compared to fine artists.
At 26, Bo Lei moved to the Maldives. For a while he just made the same kind of statues for sale, marked with a "replica symbol," to support himself while he explored making original fine art statues. Then he got interested in coral gardens, but found the rectangular metal beds ugly. He started growing coral in the lagoon beyond his villa using pieces of broken statues. People went nuts over them. Soon rich tourists were trying to buy the coral-encrusted fragments to put in aquaria. Then Bo Lei started getting offers from commercial aquariums. Finally people suggested that he sink whole statues. He has subsequently expanded to concrete casting as a way to make more statues and offer varied surfaces that appeal to different species of corals. Recently he has begun exploring metalwork too. Many islands around the Maldives now sport an underwater garden of his statuary to foster coral growth and delight snorkelers.
Origin: Bo Lei developed superpowers at 13, but attributes this to "nutritional supplements" handed out by the government. He believes they were trying to induce superpowers for military purposes, because he was promptly drafted into the army. After he broke his left ankle badly in basic training, however, the military lost interest and dumped him without even disability support.
Uniform: Blue-collar menswear. Bo Lei doesn't care how he looks because whatever he puts on is promptly covered in stone dust or sand. He just keeps a few nice things for going out. However, he loves artistic T-shirts, especially ones that depict famous sculptures.
Qualities: Good (+2) Coral Gardener, Good (+2) Cosmopolitan, Good (+2) Kinesthetic Intelligence, Good (+2) Sculptor, Good (+2) Watersports
Poor (-2) Limp
Powers: Average (0) Super-Speed
Bo Lei cannot run well, and never had any interest in doing so. Instead he uses his super-speed for sculpture. It also seems to enhance the rate at which he learns new languages, as he quickly picked up both Arabic and Dhivehi after moving to the Maldives.
Motivation: To make meaningful art.

Chinese people use a character to distinguish replica and fake indirectly: “仿".
If a product claims it's "仿xxx", which means it's a replica. It's definitely not genuine one; "赝” is more like claiming it's fake/bad.

Corals will attach to a wide range of substrates including each other, concrete or cement, specially designed growth matrix, and metal. Some companies make artistic sculptures for creative dive reefs and aquarium structures. Others have gone with full-size statues. Here is a guide to coral gardening and restoration.
