Birdfeeding

I went out and fed the birds today, then walked around the yard for a bit.  I flushed a great-horned owl.  He flew around the edge of the yard and up into another tree.  :D

I hear ours routinely. Sometimes they make quite a racket at night. We see an owl every few months or so. We see red-tailed hawks almost every time we go out, occasionally in the yard.

So far though, the high point has been seeing a bald eagle in our yard twice this year!
We mostly see red tails and crows around here.
We only get the smaller barred owls and we never lay eyes on them. It'll spook you thoroughly to hear them start making their "laughing" calls some dark night.
I've seen one bald eagle at a nearby lake. We regularly hear the sandhill cranes and wild turkeys down in the creek bottom but like the owls we never see them.
My favorite little visitor is the southern mocking bird. He occasionally tunes up and sings his heart out for me.
