Sunday Yardening

Today is cool and cloudy.

I've been seeing more birds at the feeders today, a small flock of mourning doves and two downy woodpeckers.  As the woodpeckers were chasing each other, I suspect they are rivals rather than mates.

We got a tiny bit of rain last night, but the ground is still dry and hard.  >_<  I am mainly digging holes by looking for a crack in the ground and wedging the trowel in there.

So far, I've gone out twice.  First I planted 5 narcissus in the bed by the parking lot.  Then I planted 10 narcissus under bushes along the driveway.  I would like to put in some big drifts in the prairie garden, where earlier plantings have thrived for years.  But that will have to wait until a swath can be mowed, and after we get enough rain that I can really dig.

On the bright side, yesterday's 10 + today's 15 = 25 out of 150 narcissus bulbs, so I'm 1/6 done with that.  Plus the tulips, of course.

EDIT 10/6/19 -- I went back out and planted another 10 narcissus under a tree along the driveway.

EDIT 10/6/19 -- I planted 5 more narcissus under another tree along the driveway.  That's 50 total out of 150, so 1/3 done.  \o/  Then I watered plants.
