Poem: "Chamomile and Care"
This poem was inspired by the "bad ideas" square in my 8-2-19 card for the End of Summer Bingo fest. It has been sponsored by [personal profile] zianuray. It belongs to the Shiv thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.

"Chamomile and Care"

[Saturday, May 30, 2015]

Shiv wasn't sure when it had
happened, only that it had.

He stared at the tea cabinet,
wondering when he had built up
and entire first aid kit of tea.

Dr. Bloch had turned him on to
catnip, Rosie had recommended
a few other things, Heron had
brought over blends to help
with this or that, Gray and Luci
had told him their favorites ...
it added up over time.

Now he had to cut that
down to what would fit in
his two travel tea chests.

One had dividers to hold
tea bags, while the other
had tins for loose-leaf tea.

Shiv trailed his fingers over
the boxes and jars on the shelves,
trying to guess what he'd need.

He couldn't help recalling
Molly's observation that
sometimes first aid consisted
of chamomile and care.

So he packed chamomile and
ginger, catnip and peppermint,
along with some other simples.
He took his favorite blends too.

Shiv patted his ticket pocket,
making sure that he had
a bottle of blue chamomile.

That helped a wide range
of soup problems, as well as
nary things like headaches.

It was spreading slowly, but it
hadn't made its way into
every first aid kit yet.

Some places even
banned it still, not like
Shiv gave a fuck about that
beyond hiding his supplies
with a little more care.

At least Motor City was
civilized in that regard.

Shiv closed his tea chests
and put a list of the contents
on the lid of each one.

He was still nervous
about the trip, but he found
that the packing helped him
put his thoughts in order.

He could handle this.
