Notes for "Already Where You Want to Be"

These are the notes for "Already Where You Want to Be."

"What holds most people back isn’t the quality of their ideas, but their lack of faith in themselves. You have to live your life as if you are already where you want to be."
Russell Simmons

This shows the outside of Blues Moon with the main floor and two layers of apartments. The two flanking buildings also belong to the Ebonies & Ivories. The taller building on the left is an apartment building. The smaller building on the right is used as storage space for artwork and furnishings which can be used in any of the apartments above the jazz joint.

The basement contains the working part of the lair. The largest office below the lunch room belongs to Boss White. The one across from it is the guest room. The accounts/manager and board room offices are shared space. The big corner office in the upper right is the patch room. They actually don't have an exercise room in their own lair; instead they have a group membership at a nearby gym.

Here is the layout of the main floor showing the jazz club and restaurant.

The two floors above the club have apartments similar to these. The hallway extends all the way to the back stairs. The central stairwell and elevator is instead a common lounge area. On the lower floor, the front right "open" apartment is a flop room with multiple beds, which can sleep a total of 12 people. The front left "Mies" apartment is furnished normally, but not permanently assigned, used as temporary housing or extra function space as needed. Shiv gets the back left "standard" apartment, with the bathroom protected inside the bedroom. Popgun has the right middle semi-open apartment. On the top floor, Boss White has the back left "standard" apartment, and Lieutenant Brown has the back right semi-open apartment.

This is the key to Shiv's apartment over Blues Moon. Shiv's kitchen is a cozy little L tucked into the front of his apartment. He has three blue prints on the wall there. Shiv's dining room has a small table and a quote on the wall. Shiv's living room includes a black-bordered blanket spread over a large futon. On the wall he has a photoprint of saxophonist Mark Turner. This is one of Shiv's houseplants. Here is the mail sorter. This light switch has another sticker. Shiv's bedroom has the bed done in blue. Shiv's bathroom has a snowflake theme.

Motion is a cold cereal mixed from flakes of oat, wheat, and corn that are high in bran plus bits of dried dates, figs, pears, and prunes. It is one of the highest fiber cereals on the market.

This is Heron's massage equipment bag.

His physical therapy tote bag has an interior organizer.

Therapy putty comes in various colors that indicate its resistance level. It offers many benefits. There are exercises for dexterity, strength, and so on.

Thinking putty comes in even more colors, and some of it does amazing tricks. It can be used for exercises, but most people use this kind just for relaxation and amusement.

Therapy balls come in assorted textures. They are popular manipulatives. There are also therapy balls with different resistance levels similar to the putty, meant for doing exercises.

Heron's fidget box includes a variety of items. This is a textured tangle. Popular card games are compact and fun. We Didn't Playtest This at All is a whimsical modern game.

Doing jigsaw puzzles can have many benefits. Some basic puzzles include Family Forever (24 pieces), Amazing Sea Turtles (300 pieces), and Doors of the World (550 pieces).

Here is a set of red, blue, and green laser pointers. The spots of light are fun to chase for humans as well as cats.

Small box games are tabletop games with compact pieces and lively play, ideal for packing on a trip. 13 Minutes is a card-driven game about the Cuban Missile Crisis. Burgle Bros. is a cooperative heist game. Catan Traveler Compact Edition is a more portable version of a much larger and more complex game about civilization.

Therapy exercises help develop dexterity and reflexes in the hands and upper body. These basic exercises can suit many different conditions or needs.

The Door Exercise is one of the most notorious mindfulness exercises, because it's incredibly difficult, but also stupid and pointless. We Didn't Playtest This at All takes the concept of doing something before you do something and makes it fun. Play the game, don't do the Door Exercise.

Blues Moon now offers Halal Plates. This one has Beef Gyros, Salad, and Tabbouleh over Yellow Rice. Here are the Hot Wings with Yellow Rice and Salad. For dessert they have Pistachio Baklava.

This bodymap shows some pressure points used for massage. Pushing on these produces intense sensations. For most people, that's uncomfortable, even painful. However, Shiv loves certain types of controlled pain, and that makes him a pressure junkie. It really is rare in skinny people -- most pressure junkies have layers of muscle and/or fat that you have to push through in order to reach the relevant bits. But some masochists just love the intense stimulation. This process can also release deep emotions and/or repressed memories. Shiv hates this. He can go from "that's great" to "fuck no" in a split second. There are various ways to deal with such upheavals, but it's up to the client whether they want to work with that stuff in the session, or shake it off as fast as possible. Shiv prefers to shake it off, but at least he's far enough along to communicate that need clearly. Here is a more detailed handbook on bodywork for abuse survivors.
