"Manipulating the Materials"
Crafting is all about
manipulating the materials.
In knitting and crochet it's yarn,
and before that, raw wool
twisted into spirals.
In ceramics it's mud
made into smooth clay,
then dishware and sculptures.
In painting it's pigment
floated in oil and brushed
onto the waiting canvas.
In baking it's everything --
milk and butter, flour and yeast,
herbs and spices and fruit and nuts.
Crafting is all about getting
your hands dirty, or at least involved,
and especially, taking it slow.
