Poem: "Respecting Fire"

This poem came out of the July 2, 2019 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from [personal profile] corvi. It also fills the "grilling" square in my 12-1-18 card for the Summer in December Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by [personal profile] lilliane.

"Respecting Fire"

Any element can be dangerous,
but respecting fire, it is the most fickle.

That makes respecting fire
essential to safety.

Every culture has
rules about how
to handle fire.

Don't burn trash,
don't stomp out a fire,
don't pour water on it.

When grilling food,
don't squirt lighter fluid
over hot charcoal, and
don't try to grab food
that falls into the fire.

Most especially,
don't play with fire:
you will get burned.

Only if you show respect
will you be safe --

if it's in a good mood.
