This poem came out of the June 4, 2019 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by Shirley Barrette. It also fills the "Baby / Child" square in my 6-1-19 card for the Cottoncandy Bingo fest.
"Written Not in Blood"
Adoption is an oath
written not in blood
but in trust.
It is a promise
to be there through
all of life's ups and downs.
It is a tree watered
with sweat and tears.
Blood may be thicker,
but water is life.
