Emotional Intimacy Question: First Purchase

Folks have mentioned an interest in questions and conversations that make them think. So I've decided to offer more of those. This is the current list.

32. What was the first thing you bought with your own money?

I have no idea.  My parents let me have spending money early enough that I don't remember a first time.  Statistically speaking, though, it was probably a book.  That was one of the first things I made a beeline for in a store or on gift occasions.

I do have one very early memory of picking out little animal figures from a big box.  My mother said, "You're spending all your money."  What I was doing was pulling out all the ones that interested me, because there were a lot of duplicates.  Then I looked at what I had and narrowed it down to the ones I wanted to buy.  I probably wasn't even school age then.  I still use that as one of several shopping patterns.  Sometimes I look for clusters of things that go together (e.g. clothes) and other times I look for things that are the most different (e.g. buying jelly I'll look for a red flavor and a yellow flavor).
