Woodpeckers!

Birds are swarming my hopper feeder today.  :D  There are lots of sparrows and dark-eyed juncos, along with some mourning doves.  I saw a red-bellied woodpecker.  Then I saw a pair  of downy woodpeckers!  I don't think I've ever seen a pair before.  Both sexes are deckled black-and-white, and males have a red spot on the head.  \o/

They'll eat possums too, which we have in addition to the skunks. Not much else will.
I wonder if that's why they moved in close to you?
Prey capable of feeding a family of baby owls and yet still small enough for an adult owl to carry.

Probably so. The yard is rife with owl food. There are always rabbits and mice out the wazoo, along with occasional skunks and possums. Plus a few squirrels. Those owls could kill a rabbit a night and not put a dent in the population. Sometimes we go outside and see three or four of the damn things.
We have a whole herd of them!
If I knew a way to summon critters that would eat them along with the voles and moles, I'd do it.
