Content notes for "If You Have Almost Nothing"

These are the content notes for "If You Have Almost Nothing."

"Bus stops are far more interesting and useful places to have art than in museums. Graffiti has more chance of meaning something or changing stuff than anything indoors. Graffiti has been used to start revolutions, stop wars, and generally is the voice of people who aren't listened to. Graffiti is one of those few tools you have if you have almost nothing. And even if you don't come up with a picture to cure world poverty you can make somebody smile while they're having a piss."
-- Banksy

"The Witch of the Westmoreland" by Archie Fisher performed by Stan Rogers
And wet rose she from the lake
And fast and fleet went she,
One half the form of a maiden fair
With a jet-black mare's body.

Visionary art aims to portray metaphysical images and ideas.  See the art tent.  The three-faced painting that Graham bought is called "Diamond Being."

Learn how to make incense.

Inspiration Incense
This incense has a spicy, herbal scent and comes as coarse crumbles meant to be burned on charcoal
1 part sweetgrass (call spirit helpers)
1 part cinnamon (success, power, passion)
1 part myrrh (wisdom, healing, balance)
1 part yarrow (earth, bringing things forth)
2 parts white sandalwood chips (soothing, relaxation, higher consciousness)
2 parts dried ginger root (fire, energy, personal growth)
3 parts frankincense (fire, good luck, success, transformation, inspiration)

Graffiti comes in many sizes and styles. The quickest is a "tag," just the artist's name in one color. A "throw-up" is more involved, often written in bubble letters with two or three colors. A "piece" is short for masterpiece, a large complex mural using many colors.

If you hear a voice within you say “you cannot paint,” then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.
Vincent Van Gogh

Spraypainting spacescapes is relatively easy. (You can use similar techniques with canned spray paint or airbrush.) It doesn't require a lot of "artistic" talent, just a little sense of color and composition, to make something that looks good. Videos show how to make a whole spacescape, use tools, and paint a galaxy on a leaf. Explore other ideas for collaborative art.

Shiv and Dr. G contribute to this piece intended for the charity auction.

Shiv gets a souvenir t-shirt that says "Art is not a crime."

Graham chooses a card showing the Witch of the Westmoreland.

The festival includes space for children's art.
