Poem: Homeside

My friend Enok Kippersund is a talented photographer, and sometimes shares his pictures with us on the Cybermind email list. I've decided that that best place for poems inspired by photos is here on my blog, where I can include a copy or a link of the base photo along with the poem. The following picture is posted here with Enok's permission, and my poem appears after it.

Homeside

A lead-gray lake lilts beneath the sky,
as limp as silk without the wind,
all edged with snowy lace.
Where the water grows shallow,
a buoy bobs on the surface
like a red bead rolling on gray cloth,
the only spot of color in a monochrome world.

Two cabins stand on the beach,
their weathered gray clapboard
denying the winter its entrance.
They have their backs to the wind
and their shuttered faces to the water.

Docks there are,
pointing toward the lake,
but the little boats
all have their noses homeward.

Nobody but the birds
will be going out today.

Thank you, Elisabeth, for taking the photo into your perspective! Quite a speciel experience, i.e. it happens very very seldom that one of my pictures gets a follow-up i.e. follow-on! - like this. And also a nice thing to see the link to my homepage on your blog.

Good luck!

Enok
You're welcome, and thank you for sharing your picture!

If you like interactivity, you might consider starting a LiveJournal of your own. The basic account is free: https://www.livejournal.com/create.bml

I've seen several LJs based on photography, and some of them are really interesting. Also I've been observing trends in electronic publication, cybermarketing, and direct-to-audience sales of creative products. Interactivity is a key feature of online life, and it attracts people. I don't think you'd have a hard time getting feedback on your photos if that's your goal.
