Prayer for the Day

I'm offering this as a daily prayer today. Feel free to join in, substituting your divine patron(s) of choice. If you're on another prayer team covering a different aspect -- frex, ozarque is covering the inauguration attendees -- you're welcome to add that too. Prayer teams can be official or unofficial; some religious groups organize them, and the rest are just based on whatever people decide to make their focus.


Dear gods,
Thank you for sending Barack Obama to help make America a better place. Please get him and his family through today and his term(s) alive and functional. Ashe!

Dear gods,

During the past election, I saw many disparate people come together and say that they were voting for change. Please help all of those people to keep working for that change together and as friends. Remind us of everything that inspired us to go to the polls last November and to wait in those long lines, to work as volunteers to help get out the vote, and to do all the things that made this inauguration possible. Give us the generosity of spirit not only to become friends with of like mind who worked toward this political goal but with our other neighbors. The challenges facing our nation need the strength of all our people to solve them. Help us to do so with understanding and kindness for each other.

I disagree with the message, but that is a very well-crafted poem that provokes much thought.

Worth mentioning is that studies show meditation changes the brain:

When humans focus attention on something, that brings mind and body into alignment with it. Prayer and meditation are ways of doing that. Whether or not one believes in any Higher Power(s), the focusing effect still works.

Thoughts have weight. Place yours in the direction you want the world to go.
