Re: Better holidays

>> This is exactly what someone should have done for Shiv the FIRST time he showed that he was anxious and unhappy around a holiday tree. <<

Yes, yes it is. >_<

By the time Shiv got to the couple of families that actually would have worked with him on this topic, he was either quietly balky or noisily hostile about most things.

>>Instead, fifteen or more years after that fear has gotten entrenched and REINFORCED,<<

Yeah, by now the whole compounded mess has turned the holiday season into one big trigger farm. 0_o Instead of being able to enjoy most of it with just a few things he doesn't like, Shiv is left poking at it to see if there's anything he could still enjoy.

>> Simon and Tolli have to come along and mend what they can of the damage. <<

\o/ I think this will help a lot, by the time they get through it.

>> Shiv deserves to have quiet, happy holidays the way HE wants them. Tree or no tree, music or no music, and so on.<<

Yea, verily. I think there are many holiday activities he could enjoy, but most of them are quiet ones. Someone suggested stringing popcorn garlands -- Shiv would love that.

>> Convincing HIM of that may take another twenty years, though. <<

Sadly so. You have to debug bad tape the same way it went in: one line at a time.
