Emotional Intimacy Question: What You Miss
Folks have mentioned an interest in questions and conversations that make them think. So I've decided to offer more of those. Having finished the first list, I'm moving on to a new list.

1. What do you miss about being a kid?

My grandparents.

I agree.
I also miss Memphis' Overton Park Zoo that we lived near back when I was little. I swear I practically grew up in that zoo, we were there every weekend. (It was free and within an easy walk from our house.) Good memories.

Aww ...

The zoo sounds wonderful.

"My" zoo growing up was the St. Louis zoo. It was farther away, but we went once or twice a year. At the time, naturalistic exhibits were just starting to appear, and that was one of the forerunners. They also had one of the earliest and most successful breeding programs that was more than just a fluke. So we got to see a lot of exciting firsts. :D

Re: Aww ...

You're right--how could I have forgotten--those first few naturalistic exhibits were wonderful.
I loved the dark exhibit that kept the bats awake during the day. (Lights came on at night to give the bats a "daytime".)

Re: Aww ...

Yeah, they had one of those.

I remember when they hired muralists and sculptors to come in and create habitats in places like the Reptile House, and when they remodeled the Ape House with climbing areas. :D

Re: Aww ...

Did your zoo have an outdoor monkey castle?
Both the Overton Park Zoo in Memphis and the smaller zoo they had in Jackson had them.
Once it became apparent that they weren't good for the monkeys, I remember the Jackson zoo moved the monkeys elsewhere and then used the moat around the monkey castle for their pink flamingoes which seemed to love it judging by the nests they built every year.

Re: Aww ...

Not for monkeys, but they did build a gorilla yard in more recent years.
