Sunday Yardening
Today is sunny and warmer.  Lots of butterflies are fluttering around, although I haven't seen big chains of monarchs on the trees.

I planted 10 assorted daffodils and 10 mixed tulips in purple to black shades in the prairie garden.  I put the daffodils around the tulips in hopes of discouraging herbivores.

Fritillaria are a group of bulbs that are good at discouraging deer and rodents alike.
If nothing else, plant some garlic around your tulips.

I haven't tried those, as I don't find the flowers appealing.

No garlic, but both garlic chives and regular chives. I have also experimented with planting prairie onions around the septic garden. There are some in the wildflower garden. I don't notice them deterring much, though.

Re: Thoughts

I don't think there's been as much hybridization work done on the Frit's as there's been on the daffs and tulips. Like you, I don't find their flowers that appealing either, but I thought I'd tell you so you'd know.
When critters are hungry enough, they simply hold their noses and eat. That's why I don't plant tulips.
