Character Notes for "The Oldest Associations"
These are the character notes for "The Oldest Associations."

Junket (Brandon Drexler) -- He has pinkish-fair skin and vivid indigo eyes. Although born with black hair, it turned peacock shades of blue and green when he gained his superpower. Unlike many soups, he has a business degree and staunchly maintains that what he does is honest work so he should get paid for it. This clashes with a lot of the altruistic superheroes and the ruthlessly mercenary supervillains alike. He's a businessman, dammit, and he just wants people to respect that.
Origin: At his college, an experiment in Super-Gizmology got out of hand and caused an explosion. A number of students caught in the blast developed Teleporting or Super-Speed, with Junket getting the former. They all share the distinctive peacock-colored hair.
Uniform: Expensive business suit, which rather clashes with his spiky blue and green hair. He also favors heavy eye makeup in the same peacock colors.
Qualities: Good (+2) Business Degree, Good (+2) Fanlore, Good (+2) Fast, Good (+2) Ladies' Man, Good (+2) Networking
Poor (-2) Jumps to Conclusions
Powers: Expert (+4) Teleporting
Motivation: "Let me make this abundantly clear: I do the job, and then I get PAID."

His vidwatch can display a control panel, show movies, and do all kinds of other things. Many people in Terramagne carry their medical records with them on a secure device, which helps both accessibility and privacy.

Granny Whammy -- Helen Laguardia was Whammy Lass in her youth, one of the first really famous superheroes. She served in World War II. She has olive skin and brown eyes. Her wavy hair was black, and is now white. As Granny Whammy, she runs the Super Power Organizational & Operational Nexus.
Origin: Always a big strong girl, she came into her superpower at puberty.
Uniform: Whammy Lass served in the army and wore camo fatigues. Granny Whammy customarily wears dark green pants with a cream or white blouse, often with a camo-patterned sweater or vest on top.
Qualities: Master (+6) Commanding Respect, Master (+6) Wisdom of Experience, Expert (+4) Organizational Skills, Expert (+4) Stubborn, Good (+2) Activist, Good (+2) Armor, Good (+2) Soup HIstory
Poor (-2) No Longer a Spring Chicken
Powers: Good (+2) Strength
Motivation: Use the right tool for the job.

Muscle Girl (Carrie Bennion) -- She is short with a stocky, muscular build. Her breasts are on the small side of average, her waist straight, and her hips narrower than her shoulders. Her thighs are thick and powerful. Carrie has pale skin, gray eyes, and straight black hair usually worn in two shoulder-length pigtails. She weighs about 145 pounds. Her family background is Welsh.
Carrie began studying Muay Thai and later moved into Mixed Martial Arts. She can deliver a tremendous amount of force very quickly. Her elbow strikes yield 400 pounds, knee 550 pounds, punches 650 pounds, and kicks 800 pounds. She can land 8 blows within 3 seconds, for a total of 4,800 pounds. This is enough to break bones, cause a concussion, and do serious internal damage. Or in self-defense lingo: she has stopping power. She likes to do the math to figure out angles and power of attacks.
Muscle Girl works for the Westbord SPOON base, going out with whomever needs her support. Her knowledge of nutrition includes cooking for athletes. SPOON likes to pair her with people who have Super-Strength or Super-Speed because they need careful feeding. She's also popular with novice superheroes in general because her coaching experience makes her an effective teacher. Combined with her followship skills, this means Muscle Girl can fill any rank on a team. However, her formidable mix of talents and knowledge makes it difficult for some people to understand her, and she feels bad about that.
Origin: A Super-Gizmologist was making and selling super-steroids out of the gym where Carrie worked. One day, an explosion splashed weird drugs over a bunch of people. Several of them died. Most just got sick. One developed superpowers. And nothing happened to Carrie, good or bad. She said "fuck it" and decided to become a superhera anyway.
Uniform: Workout clothes, often a tank top and shorts in some combination of black and orange.
Qualities: Master (+6) Speed, Master (+6) Strength, Expert (+4) Bodybuilding, Expert (+4) Mixed Martial Arts, Expert (+4) Follower, Good (+2) Coach, Good (+2) Determination, Good (+2) Citizen First Responder, Good (+2) Math, Good (+2) Nutrition, Good (+2) Tough
Poor (-2) Feeling Misunderstood
Motivation: To fight the good fight. She finds combat exhilarating and wants to do something productive with that.
Model: Gina Carano

Steroid abuse can cause serious health problems. Super-steroids are more powerful and have worse side effects.

Stilts (Rodney Davenport) -- He has fair skin, brown eyes, and wavy dark blond hair. He bruises easily and heals slowly. He lives in the Heights. Rodney has always been fast and agile, enjoying such sports as Tae Kwon Do and walking on stilts, which is where his nickname originally came from. On several occasions he actually used stilt walking to get past enemy defenses, while working for SPOON. Since he got injured by the supervillain Warpcore, it's more a reference to the fact that he walks with forearm crutches, although he is trying to figure out how to use hand stilts to walk upside-down. At home he uses a stander for tasks such as cooking, to remain upright while keeping his hands free. He has already adapted his knowledge to practice Criptaedo. He can use his crutches to trip or hit people, and to block attacks, quite effectively. Although Rodney has spoken to several healers, the nature of Warpcore's talent makes the damage difficult or impossible to fix, and so far nobody has been able to help.
Origin: His super-speed grew in during his teens. On reaching adulthood, Stilts joined SPOON. Several years later, he tangled with Warpcore in a fight that damaged his legs.
Uniform: On-duty, he wears a dexflan unitard, melon colored with white trim. Off-duty, he wears street clothes over it. His super-speed is enough to shred regular fabric if he exerts himself too much; better to be prepared than left naked.
Qualities: Expert (+4) Determination, Good (+2) Activist, Good (+2) Criptaedo, Good (+2) Thinking Outside the Box
Poor (-2) Recovering from Injuries
Powers: Master (+6) Super-Speed
Motivation: "You're not seriously suggesting I should quit superheroing just because some bitch fucked up my legs? Come over here and I'll show you what I've still got!"

The Analyst (Josephine Turner) -- She is average height and full-figured. She keeps her blonde hair cut short for convenience. Her father is a policeman; her mother is a librarian. Her childhood role model was Velma from Scooby-Doo, who also could not see without her glasses but did not let that stop her from solving mysteries. Now she works for SPOON out of the Westbord base, specializing in the analysis of incidents involving superpowers. She uses her skills as much for pleasure as business, enjoying such things as brainteasers and puzzles.
Origin: Her powers grew in slowly over time.
Uniform: She dresses in a version of the Westbord SPOON uniform: a brown shirt and pants with the SPOON logo embroidered in gold on the chest pocket. Hers has lots of pockets in her pants and vest, plus a toolbelt.
Qualities: Expert (+4) Deduction, Expert (+4) Know-It-All, Good (+2) Determination, Good (+2) Dexterity, Good (+2) Friends on the Force
Poor (-2) Runner
Powers: Expert (+4) Super-Gizmology, Expert (+4) Super-Intellect
Expert (+4) Spic-n-Spanner: a portable super-gizmo with a vast array of scanning and analytical equipment.
Good (+2) Utility Belt: a compact way to carry many ordinary tools and small super-gizmos, thus ensuring she usually has the right tool for the job. Any job.
Vulnerability: Her eyesight is so bad that she is legally blind without her glasses. Her combat glasses have an elastic strap, and her everyday glasses have a jeweled chain, to reduce the chance of losing them.
Motivation: To find out what happened.

Bipass (Seb Abaroa) -- He has fair skin, brown eyes, and short dark hair. His heritage includes British, Egyptian, and Basque. His day job is in construction, where he uses his Phasing to fasten things together. As a superhero, he volunteers in search-and-rescue, Phasing through rubble to retrieve survivors. His hobbies include assembling models such as airplanes or famous buildings, but he also does dioramas for museums and sets for a model railroad club in his hometown. His focus on practical and concrete matters has left him with little sense of the numinous. He also dislikes attention, preferring to pass unnoticed. High school bullying has left him a little shy and awkward; the occasional flack over superpowers hasn't helped any.
Origin: During his time at trade school, a classmate's carelessness caused an accident, and he got caught under a collapsed building. That triggered his superpower, and he Phased away from the wreckage, dazed but unharmed.
Uniform: Blue-collar men's clothes. He has little patience with fashion, and strongly prefers durable garments.
Qualities: Good (+2) Construction Worker, Good (+2) Model Builder, Good (+2) Spatial Intelligence, Good (+2) Strength, Good (+2) Search-and-Rescue
Poor (-2) Existential Intelligence
Powers: Good (+2) Phase
Motivation: To slip through the cracks.

Bipass doors -- Doors that slide by each other and commonly used as closet doors.

Anxiety Girl (Adrienne Elwood) -- She has pale skin, brown eyes, and long straight black hair. Her body is slim and boyish, without much flare of breast or hip. She managed to get a degree in Criminal Psychology before her anxiety got bad enough to interfere with everyday life. She also has disaster and safety training. She volunteers with SPOON and occasionally with BASH units to imagine all the things that could go wrong when attacking supervillains or addressing other challenges. This allows other people to plan accordingly, and prevents a great many mishaps. She is determined not to let her anxiety prevent her from being a superhera. In exchange for her help, SPOON is helping her search for a compatible mindhealer.
Origin: She was studying abnormal psychology in college, which included working with prison inmates. One of them escaped, kidnapped her, and tormented her for three days before local police could follow her clues and rescue her. The experience left her with severe anxiety and superpowers.
Uniform: Blue dexflan bodysuit, the chest marked with a blue "A" on a green starburst. Over that she wears locking shorties of green dexflan, green krevel shoes, and a green capery cape. She also wears a narrow mask of green dexflan. Off duty, she varies between hiding her body or trying to look more feminine by enhancing her curves with foundation garments.
Qualities: Expert (+4) Smart, Good (+2) Criminal Psychology, Good (+2) Determination, Good (+2) Disaster Prevention & Response, Good (+2) Fast
Poor (-2) Panic Attacks
Powers: Good (+2) Extrapolation
Motivation: To overcome her anxiety enough to make a difference as a superhera.

Shane Avery -- He has fair skin, brown eyes, and dark blond hair. He gets cold easily, so he tends to dress in layers. Shane worked in customer service at a large corporation, where he loved helping people solve their problems. But after his powers manifested, the company fired him. He also got kicked out of his apartment and his girlfriend dumped him. He is not coping at all well.
Origin: His superpowers manifested abruptly and without warning. Because of this, an outside cause is suspected by has not been identified.
Uniform: Smart-casual business attire at work, usually a sports jacket or cardigan over a button-up shirt and trousers. He likes fancy leather shoes with exotic scales or decorations. He favors soft neutral jackets and pants such as camel or light gray, and pastel shirts. Elsewhere he tends toward khakis and chinos with a polo shirt or sweater.
Qualities: Expert (+4) Customer Service, Good (+2) Cooperative Games, Good (+2) Extrovert, Good (+2) Instincts
Poor (-2) End of His Rope
Powers: Good (+2) Lizardman Form
This metapower includes Armor and Regeneration.
Vulnerability: Cold makes him sluggish and uncomfortable.
Motivation: To end it all.

See Shane in his human form and iguana man.

Razzle (Carisa Rojas) -- She has tinted skin, silver eyes, and neon pink hair cut just below her ears. Her heritage is Hispanic, American, and a little Asian. She has the ultraviolet vision that crayon soups sometimes have. Razzle is a "beta team" superhera who doesn't fight crime, but rather goes into warm zones of soup incidents or natural disasters to handle things like fallen electrical lines. She also helps modify buildings to accommodate special needs for people with superpowers. Sometimes she volunteers as a show soup to deliver presentations. Other people often find her annoying due to noise level, though -- Razzle isn't careful about her knocking and banging while she works, and she likes loud music too.
Origin: When Carisa was a freshman in high school, she snuck out to a senior party where people were serving jello shots that glowed in the dark. Several Raspberry Twists later, she had alcohol poisoning and also superpowers.
Uniform: Silver dexflan catsuit. She wears sensible boots of silver krevel for rough work, but on social calls she often substitutes high heels instead.

Poor (-2) Noisy
Powers: Good (+2) Pink Hair, Average (0) Electrical Powers
Motivation: To hook up.

Kay Vargas -- She has toffee skin, black eyes, and long straight black hair. Her heritage includes French, Spanish, Klamath and Modoc Indian. The name Kay comes from the Klamath-Modoc language and means "rabbit," rather than the Irish "fire" or Latin "pier." She works for the Red Cross as an Emotional First Aide in Westbord, which includes physical first aird training as well, although she's not as good at that part. Her outgoing personality allows her to establish rapport quickly, even under adverse circumstances, and she's an easy read for soups such as empaths and teleporters who need to get a sense of other people. Kay tends to remember all sorts of random facts, so she can chatter about safe topics. As a hobby, she makes baskets, a tradition spanning most Californian tribes along with Spain and Mexico. It's a way to work through historical and intergenerational trauma.
Qualities: Good (+2) Basketmaking, Good (+2) Emotional First Aide, Good (+2) Fast Rapport, Good (+2) Tall Girl, Good (+2) Trivia
Poor (-2) Historical Trauma

Modoc and Klamath are two tribes in California.

Baskets appear in the art of California, Spain, Mexico, and many other places.

(These links are heinous.)
Historical trauma comes out of past harm but impacts people today. Intergenerational trauma is passed down through families. The results can be catastrophic.

Walter Robinson -- He has fair skin, brown eyes, and short dark hair going gray. He has a kind face with ears that stick out, and he looks like someone's goofy uncle.  He is married to Eleanor with four sons: Fraser (24), Ruprecht (18), and the twins Ash and Alder (13). Walter has one brother and two sisters, with a total of three nieces and nephews from them so far, plus another four from Eleanor's brothers and sister.  He is a banker who specializes in financing new businesses in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Poor (-2) Motion Sickness
