I first encountered this story years ago in an anthology, and loved it instantly.  I've been looking for an online reference ever since, and finally found the whole thing.  This is the only story you'll ever need to explain why introducing exotic species is a Bad Thing.  If someone doesn't get it after reading this, they probably never will.  This is what science fiction is all about.
