Confluence of Inspiration

... is well known in speculative fiction.

I myself view it as a feature, not a bug.  This is especially true with science fiction.  Used to be, every notable discovery sparked a bunch of people writing about the New Thing, and more often than not, at least one of those was good enough to become a classic -- the "iconic" rendition of that motif.  I love taking inspiration from new discoveries.  But it's a lot less common now, and that makes me sad.  There's a sun out there with SIX earthlike planets.  Writers should be all over that like kittens on catnip.  I haven't heard a one yet.  *sigh*
