Spring Leaves

I went out to feed the birds today and noticed something new.

Several days of warm, rainy weather have brought up the spring bulbs.  :D  I have been watching for them to appear for weeks.  In recent years, they've appeared in mid-to-late January or early February.  :/  This year, it's closer to what used to be the old norm, late February to early March.  (Remember, we used to have snow cover until March, back in Zone 5b days.)  So maybe they won't get frozen off this time.  Sadly, the spitting rain means I don't want to take the camera out today, but I can describe my ramble around the yard.

Tulips in the purple-and-white garden and daffodils around the maple are up about an inch.  Under the gas tank, daffodils are finger-length.  Tiny crocus tips are appearing in various places.

In the septic garden, chives are showing green sprouts and the first gray-green buds are poking through where the sedum is.  A few thistles are sprouting too.  I'll have more weedkilling to attempt this year.

Lilac buds are beginning to swell.  That reminded me to check the maple, whose flower buds are swelling notably but I don't think they're open yet.  They get pretty big and look like spiky balls when they're in bloom.

But spring is coming!  :D
