Poem: "If You Love It, Put a Ring on It"
This was written outside the regular prompt calls, during the Great American Eclipse. It has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette.
"If You Love It, Put a Ring on It"
I have loved the stars
with all my heart
and the sun high in the heavens.
I have cupped the moon-kissed sun
in the clever camera of my hands
and caught its slender crescent falling free.
I have watched the light
turn thin and sharp as smoked glass
as the moon cut into the sun.
I have turned my face to the sky
and called out, Come on, baby,
if you love it, put a ring on it
and received a diamond ring
in reward for my worship,
a sign of affection returned.
Even though this hoop of jewels
will take me nowhere, I know
that the true gate lies within myself.
"If You Love It, Put a Ring on It"
I have loved the stars
with all my heart
and the sun high in the heavens.
I have cupped the moon-kissed sun
in the clever camera of my hands
and caught its slender crescent falling free.
I have watched the light
turn thin and sharp as smoked glass
as the moon cut into the sun.
I have turned my face to the sky
and called out, Come on, baby,
if you love it, put a ring on it
and received a diamond ring
in reward for my worship,
a sign of affection returned.
Even though this hoop of jewels
will take me nowhere, I know
that the true gate lies within myself.
